Chocolate Cake with American Buttercream Frosting

Duff pairs the water in his cake batter with 1/2 cup of brewed coffee to bring out the cake's chocolate flavor. If you're feeling really daring, you can also replace the coffee with a dark stout beer for a more toasted taste.

Funnel Cakes

Duff ate his first funnel cake when he visited Disneyland as a youngster, and he's been working on perfecting them ever since. Use a plastic piping bag to make forming the funnel cakes easier. Once the cakes are golden in color, pat them dry and top them with a showering of powdered sugar.

Blueberry Cake Doughnuts

Add a little something blue to your breakfast or snack time with these doughnuts from Duff. Use thawed, frozen blueberries to give the doughnuts their light-blue hue. For a thinner glaze, use additional milk; if you prefer a thicker glaze, go ahead and stir in more powdered sugar.

Rosemary-Garlic Potato Bread

"I learned the joys of putting potatoes in bread during my time in the Napa Valley, so the flavors here are resonant of that magical place," Duff writes. Made with baked russet potatoes and roasted garlic, this bread adds a rustic quality to any meal.

Vegan and Gluten-Free Fruit and Almond Shortbread Bars

Duff uses vegan butter, almond and white rice flours, and potato starch to make up the layers of these bars filled with a glistening center of fruit preserves and topped with a handful of sliced almonds. For a non-gluten-free, non-vegan version, use regular butter and all-purpose flour.
