Special equipment: Small handsaw Paring knife Tablespoon Assorted flowers and branches, such as bittersweet and beauty berries

Carefully cut off the neck of the gourd using a small handsaw; begin your cut about 2 inches down the neck. The bottle gourd is hollow, but you will have to remove some flesh from its neck: Cut away solid flesh using a small paring knife, leaving approximately 1/4-inch thickness of flesh around the opening. Remove as much of the flesh as possible with the knife and a tablespoon. Fill the vase with long limbs and flowers, such as bittersweet and beauty berries.
