Blanch the prawns in a pot of boiling salted water for about 1 minute. Drain and immediately cool down in an ice water bath. Set aside.
Place onion in a large bowl and sprinkle generously with salt. Let onion absorb salt for 15 minutes. Rinse under cool water and then drain. Return onion to bowl and add lime juice, tomato, prawns, and oil. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and gently stir to combine all ingredients. Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve.
