A large melon averaging about 9 pounds, the Sharlyn has a netted rind that ranges in color from beigy gold to tan. Its shape is like that of an elongated cantaloupe, and the pale green flesh is perfumy, sweet and creamysomething like a cross between a cantaloupe and a honeydew melon. The Sharlyn is available from about late June through September. It should be heavy for its size and have a sweet fragrance. See also melon.
