Ingredients

  • 3 cups full-bodied red wine
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 to 5 (1-inch wide, 3-inches long) strips orange peel
  • 1/4 orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream, refrigerated
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 pints fresh strawberries
  • Confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Directions

In a large saucepan add red wine, sugar, orange peel and orange-flavored liqueur. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 30 minutes over low-heat until slightly syrupy and liquid has reduced by half. Set aside and cool in the refrigerator. Strain.

In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream with confectioners' sugar. Take a large platter and make a smear of the sweet sour cream. Arrange the strawberries with the bottoms down in the sour cream. Pour over the red wine sauce and dust the entire plate with confectioners' sugar.

    I love this

This is a great dessert. I used strawberries, raspberries & blueberries instead of just strawberries. I also served it... parfait style by layering the berries & cream & then drizzled the wine on top of it.Read more

    over the top

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This dessert is over the top. Light and refreshing. Strawberries are just in season and on the farm stands. If you are not... privy to this, I am so sorry. Will be making this dessert this weekend for another set of friends. First time had to use Driscol berries, this week they will be local and fresh off the vine. Total candy....what more can I sayRead more

    Sometimes simple is better

Had a big dinner---which was quite good. I brought out this simple, relatively lower fat dessert and the group was more than... a little happy. Presents very nicely---and its not run of the mill. Try It!!!Read more

Super delicious, easy, and very posh indeed

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this for a dinner party and I was able to make it and plate it in advance (without drizzling the wine sauce on it) by... keeping it in the fridge. I then took it out and drizzled the sauce in front of my guests at the table (very posh indeed). Then added more wine sauce to each plate after serving. I agree, the sauce amount can be cut to a 1/3. I need to do something witht the left over sauce (I thought I'll freeze it in ice cubes and then use it when I make a sangria, genious! ha!) Thanks Tyler you rock!Read more

    What a Change!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Great way to change up fresh strawberries. Made only 1/3 of the wine sauce, but followed directions precisely. Dreaming of... other fruit on which to use the sauce and spread.Read more
