Ingredients
Dumpling Pastry:
- 4 cups flour
- 2 cups shortening
- 1 cup ice cold water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 large apples, peeled and cored
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Prepare dumpling pastry. Roll the pastry into a rectangle, 10 by 8 inches. Cut into 4 (4-inch squares) with pastry cutter or knife. Place apple on each square. Spoon 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon into the center of each apple. Moisten corners, pinching edges of pastry to seal. Brush with slightly beaten egg and sprinkle with additional sugar. Bake 30 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender.

Flavor and texture hit the spot. Aside...other reviews substitute store bought puff pastry dough. I tried it. Puff pastry was very nice.
Big difference...my original experience for apple dumplings...boiled. Can't boil puff pastry!. Enjoy this apple dumpling...baked.

I tried this recipe, but instead just bought puff pastry dough and cut it into rectangles. It was easier than making my own dough, and a time saver! It still turned out very YUMMY!
