Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare two 9-inch cake pans by rubbing with butter, sprinkling with flour and tapping out extra. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Mix together with a wooden spoon then set aside. In small bowl combine eggs, milk, oil and vanilla. Beat well with hand mixer. Slowly add boiling water and mix. Add wet ingredients to flour mixture and fold and stir until smooth. Pour batter into pans, dividing evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Loved it!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
After reading all the reviews, I thought I would give it a try. I saw that some had trouble and figured that would be me. To... my delight, this cake came out perfect. I loved the density, the flavor as di d those I shared this cake with. My only concern was the amount of time that it took me to put it all together. I know it was because it was my first time making the cake. I am looking forward to making this cake again. Read more

    Worst cake I've ever done

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I made this cake yesterday, and spent the time to decorate it for a 4 year olds birthday. Thought it would be an easier cake... to make then the ones I would do for a birthday party. After I frosted this cake it split right in half. For anyone that thinks I might be dumb and set it on something that bent the cake...as a pastry chef that is the biggest no no in the buisness. I will never use this on again.Read more

    Very, very, ordinary....at best.

Don't bother with this recipe if you want to impress. I've tasted better cakes made from boxed cake mixes.

This was my 1st homemade cake! I was worried at 1st when I saw...

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
how runny the cake mix was. However, after baking the cake in it's entirety it was very good, I changed a couple of things. I... used some instant coffee instead of hot water, I used Hershy's syrup intead of the cocoa and I used 2cups of flour. My cake didn't stick at all. I baked my cake in a glass pan. The recipe is simple and good. Next time I will experiment a little more by trying a few other tricks.Read more
