Ingredients

  • 16 ounces chickpeas
  • 6 ounces roasted red bell peppers
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded, diced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 3 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chipotle pepper in adobo
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Toasted pita bread, for serving

Directions

Mix all ingredients, except olive oil and pita bread, in food processor until pureed, then slowly add in olive oil.

Let set up for 1 hour prior to serving.

Serve with toasted pita bread.

    interesting change of pace from the usual hummus

    I made this yesterday and I am having mixed feelings about it. We eat hummus often, it has replaced all our other snack... foods! So learning to make it has been a necessity for me. I have made the regular hummus and liked it but wanted to try Guy's version for something new. I made it just like the recipe but I am not a big fan. I don't really like the dominance of the chipotle, it seems too sweet to me overall. My husband likes it though, he likes the spicy zip. Read more

    TV show was different; here's how

    I haven't actually tried this yet, but here's what I saw on TV: He used red onion and put that plus garlic and jalape?o in... the food processor and gave them a 'head start," Then he added spices and then the rest of the stuff except for the olive oil. He started the processor and then drizzled in the olive oil until it smoothed out--like you do with mayonnaise. He used a small jar of roasted red peppers and added the juice that was in the jar as well. He also did put in salt, a small amount. )The juice in the peppers may have had salt, too). He used a spoon to add the chipotle pepper so there was a lot of sauce with it. The 16 oz. of chickpeas in the recipe were two drained cans on TV. I'm sure it will be very good with these clarifications. Read more

    I also agree this hummus was good but I have had better. I can't put my finger on it , but it's missing something. It needs... something else but I couldn't figure out what?? I will keep this recipe, but I'm going to try and figure out what it's missing.Read more

    the person with the title..REALLY GREAT FLAVOR..as in kristin from orange, CA...hummus isn't mexican food...its... medittiteranean/greek food when i made the recipe...i also added a little tahini...light EVOO(lower in fat) some ground cumin, and instead of parsly..i used cilantro..cause i like the taste better...but the dip is missing a little somethingRead more

    This is a good base recipe, but I changed it up a bit and it turned out great. I added 1tsp of salt, but I think I'll do 1/2... tsp next time. Also combined it with another recipe by adding 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp cayenne, 1 tsp chili powder, and deleted the jalapeno and chipotle pepper because I didn't have any. It's spicy but not ridiculously so. VERY tasty.Read more
