Ingredients

  • 2 bags (16-ounces) frozen Brussels sprouts
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped chives
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Place Brussels sprouts in microwave safe dish and cover. Microwave on HIGH 7 minutes; stir halfway through cooking. Heat the butter in a fry pan until it turns nut brown. Add the almonds and toss to brown. Stir in extract. Add the Brussels sprouts, season with salt and pepper and toss. Cook for another 2 minutes. Garnish with chives and serve hot.

    I make this all the time and the almond extract makes this recipe! I won't make brussels sprouts any other way now.

    I loved this recipe. I left out the almond extract because it just sounded too weird. And I left out the chives because I didn't have any on hand, but I'm sure it would be even better with them. No doubt, it would be great with fresh brussels sprouts, but I used frozen like the recipe called for. I don't understand why someone who has a problem with frozen veggies would even be looking at a Sandra Lee recipe. We all know her premise is all about short cuts. Her recipes are not for cooking purists.
