Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup good quality popcorn
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or popcorn salt
  • Sprinkle jalapeno seasoning mix
  • Paper lunch bag
  • Stapler

Directions

Toss the popcorn with the olive oil, salt, and jalapeno seasoning mix in the paper bag. Fold the top of the bag over and staple the bag twice to close. Place the bag in the microwave and microwave on high for 2 minutes to 3 minutes, or until there are about 5 seconds between pops.

NOTE: Popcorn salt is a super-fine salt that is designed especially for sticking to food such as popcorn. It has the taste of regular table salt, but its granules are much finer.

$400 later, my microwave blew after 30 seconds with this recipe.

I love you Alton, and I follow you religiously. This time you let me down and it cost me a $400 microwave. Please let people know that staples and microwaves don't mix. I trusted you to guide me in a safe recipe and after 30 seconds my bag disintegrated and my new microwave stopped working.

It works!!! Watch the time and use a big enough bag, or they clump together and can burn if popped too long. But they come apart and taste great.

IDEA: Add cocoa mix or other powdered sweet flavorings for a desert snack. I added hot sauce for a kick, so this can be made in any fashion or style

Works great - but I used too much salt; had a blender to grind sea salt fine and added other healthy spices AND I used two staples and kept a good watch. No problems. I'll save the leftover salt mix for other batches! The oil really soaked the paper bag - which is probably good; less consumption of oil!
