Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (recommended: Nutella)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup orange sprinkles, or orange sugar
  • 1 (9-ounce) package of chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped (recommended: Hershey's)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In another medium bowl, place the chocolate hazelnut spread, butter, and both sugars. Using a hand mixer, cream the ingredients together, about 3 minutes. Add the

egg and vanilla and blend until incorporated. Stir in the dry ingredients, just until incorporated.

Shape the cookie dough into walnut-sized balls. Rolls the balls in the orange sprinkles or orange sugar, pressing to adhere. Place the cookies on a heavy cookie sheet about 4 inches apart. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven. Quickly place a chocolate kiss in the middle of each cookie. Return the cookies to the oven and bake for another 3 minutes. Cool the cookies on a wire rack.

    Delicious

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
These cookies are easy and delicious. I took the advice of other reviewers and shortened the bake time just a tad (seven... minutes and than three minutes). These cookies have a nice chocolate and subtle hazelnut flavor without being overpowering. The cookies are crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The next day they hardened up a little bit so I had them with tea and they were yummy! I also rolled them in various kinds of sugars and sprinkles but found non-pareils to look the nicest and also add the best flavor and texture. Read more

    Excellent- with a few variations

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
After reading some of the reviews, I decided to make my own variations. This is what I did. 1/4 c sugar, instead of 1/2... c. 1 c nutella, instead of 1/2 c. Do not roll in sugar- or else it's too sugary & sweet. Bake for 6 minutes, place kiss on cookie, then remove from pan. Do not put it back in. And they're DELICIOUS! I can taste the Nutella, I think because I doubled what it called for.Read more

    Nothing special

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
I was unimpressed.... the cookies got really flat. I baked them for less time then it was told to bake them because I like... cookies chewy, and they still ended up being hard. They were hard and crispy, and nothing special. Read more

    Way too sweet!

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
I was surprised to see that not many people complained about these being too sweet. I know I measured out everything... according to the recipe so didn't go over on my ingredients. But between the sugars you put in the cookie dough, then the nutella, the sugar that coats the cookie and the chocolate kiss ... I was on sugar overload. I even tried cookies without the kiss, then cookies without them rolled in sugar and a kiss, and still thought they were sweet! It's a great base so I plan on playing around with the recipe to see if cutting back the sugars will help. And I liked the crispness of the cookie. Would definitely try these again.Read more
