Ingredients

  • 4 ripe Haas avocados
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
  • 8 dashes hot pepper sauce
  • 1/2 cup small-diced red onion (1 small onion)
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 medium tomato, seeded, and small-diced

Directions

Cut the avocados in 1/2, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh out of their shells into a large bowl. (I use my hands.) Immediately add the lemon juice, hot pepper sauce, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper and toss well. Using a sharp knife, slice through the avocados in the bowl until they are finely diced. Add the tomatoes. Mix well and taste for salt and pepper.

Like another reviewer wrote here. Add one or two jalapenos, seeds removed and diced, and then omit the hot sauce; then and some chopped cilantro and it's perfect. In California we need it a little more authentic and flavorful. Good base recipe though.

Everytime I make this recipe I never have to worry about taking home leftovers! I gave it four stars because I have taken a few creative liberties to add a little more flavor to the recipe and make it a five star recipe. I add one medium to large jalapeno (seeds removed & minced and cilantro. Try it, people will be licking the bowl! Might I add that I have converted a few guac haters with this recipe too!

I am from the Texas-Oklahoma area where Tex Mex is king. I love the Barefoot, but this truly is the worst guacamole I have ever tried. I think the Tabasco sauce, a flavor I usually love, made the dish bitter. I prefer lime and jalapeno and maybe even a bit of cilantro (which the Barefoot doesn't like so much. Most of her recipes are spot on. I don't understand the positive reviews. Not edible in my opinion and couldn't salvage the costly waste of ingredients. Be warned if guacamole is an art to you and not just an uninspired party dish (at best here. I did enjoy her Tortilla soup very much (spiked with lime at the end.
