Ingredients

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 2 medium jars spaghetti sauce with roasted garlic
  • Pinch dried oregano
  • Pinch dried parsley
  • Pinch salt, plus additional salt for pasta water
  • Pinch pepper
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (1-pound) box rigatoni noodles
  • 2 (1-pound) blocks mozzarella cheese (not the soft kind)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large skillet, melt half of the butter over medium heat. Add turkey and cook until browned. Add tomato sauce, oregano, parsley, salt, pepper, and onion and simmer until onion is tender.

Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling, salted water until a little less than al dente. Drain and cool. Cut 1 of the blocks of cheese into cubes and slice the other into thin slices. Melt the remaining butter and pour into the bottom of a deep 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Pour 1 1/2 ladles full of the sauce into the dish, or enough to completely cover the bottom. Add a layer of pasta and then a layer of cubed cheese. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used.

Fill 1 of the empty sauce jars 1/8 full with water and shake. Pour over pasta. Top with the thin slices of cheese, and sprinkle with additional oregano and parsley, if desired. Cover casserole with foil and place in oven. Check every 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove foil for last 5 minutes of cooking to brown cheese.

    Pretty good!

It tasted nice, all ingredients balanced out nicely even though I thought the sauce might not be enough; when it was done... cooking, it was just right. I left out about 1/4 of the cheese because it seem a little too much. Overall good Ziti recipe.Read more

Fast, Delicious and Easy to Improvise with!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This recipe was amazingly easy and fast. Any flavor of Ragu can be used--in fact, I mix the flavors using Sweet Basil &... Tomato Ragu with the Mushroom Ragu. II used 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef and 2 Italian sausage, plus I added 2 cans mushrooms, 1 T Parmesan Cheese, I green pepper saute with the onions. I used 1 3/4 bags of shredded Mozzarella instead of the blocks of cheese. Makes a LOT! Tastes even better as leftovers! This one is a real winner and SUPER FAST to make!Read more

    Amazing easy!!

I subbed ricotta for some of the cheese (my family likes cheese alot). I really enjoyed the ground turkey! I didn't have a... HUGE enough skillet so I used my wok. It worked rather well. This was a great dish and makes a TON! My dad stole most of the left overs to take home. My picky fiance even liked it!Read more

I usually use ground beef in my ziti, but I tried this recipe and thought it was really good! I definitely like the flavor of... the ground turkey. I would also cut down on the cheese a little.Read more

    Easy and Good

Very good. Added Ricotta and cut 1# Mozerella. I feel that recipes are a roadmap to a great dish, and I frequently take a... side trip by adding and subtracting while not harming the flavor of the end result. Thanks for the roadmap!!Read more
