Ingredients

  • 1 liter canola oil
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for sprinkling

Directions

Heat canola oil in deep-fryer to 350 degrees F.

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in eggs and milk. (Use 1/2 cup of batter for each funnel cake.) Pour 1/2 cup batter through funnel into hot oil, moving in a circular motion as you do so, to make each spiral-shaped funnel cake. Fry each spiral of batter until golden brown, about 2 or 3 minutes, remove with tongs and lay on paper toweling to absorb oil. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle powdered sugar through a sieve onto top of hot dough. Serve immediately.

JUST THE CRAVE I WAS LOOKING FOR

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
ME AND MY COUSIN WERE CRAVING SOMETHING SWEET TO EAT ARUND 3 AM IN THE MORNING SO I FOUND THIS RECIPE AND IT WAS SO GOOD. I... ACTUALLY LIKE THEM THIN BECAUSE THEY WERE EXTRA CRISPY AND IT WAS AWSOME. THEN I MADE SOME THICK ONES AND THEY WERE SO GREAT NICE AND CRISPY ON THE OUT SIDE AND YUMMY IN THE INSIDE. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS THAT IT WAS CRISPY ENOUGH BECAUSE I USED OLIVE OIL INSTEAD OF CANOLA BECAUSE WE HAD RAN OUT. HOWEVER ALL IN ALL THIS IS AN AWSOME RECIPE AND I ALSO ADDED GROUNDED CINNAMON AND IT WAS TO DIE FOR!!!!Read more

    Fantabulous Funnel Cake

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Robert's funnel cake is better than the funnel cake we routinely get at the Orange County Fair. It is light and airy and... extremely easy to prepare. We will be preparing this recipe for many years to come. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. Thank you.Read more

    Perfect!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
The was exactly what I have eaten my entire life at fairs, theme parks, zoos or anywhere funnel cakes can be found! Perfectly... fluffy on the insde and crisp on the outside! Just follow the recipe exact and you can't go wrong... be sure your baking powder is not old or it won't fluff up! This lived up to my expectations and all of our guests we served these to! YUM!Read more

Was not at all what I expected

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
A couple of friends and I decided to make funnel cake. We chose this recipe because of all the great reviews. However, it was... not at all what we expected. The funnel cake did not taste as sweet as normal funnel cake or as fluffy from other funnel cakes we've had before. We followed the recipe and we fried it in a professional fryer too. Just a bit disappointing. Read more

    yum yum! =]

I was craving funnel cake this morning so decided to go for this recipe. I also looked up other recipes and Rachel Ray's... recipe and this one are quite similar so I figured this recipe has to turn out good. It actually turned out amazing and just what I was looking for. The only problem was that there was way too much batter and felt like it def serves more than 6 people. But then again I don't have much of a sweet tooth so that could also be it! Over all review, TASTED JUST LIKE THE ONES FROM 6 FLAGS! yummmm =] Read more
