Ingredients

  • 1 liter canola oil
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for sprinkling

Directions

Heat canola oil in deep-fryer to 350 degrees F.

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in eggs and milk. (Use 1/2 cup of batter for each funnel cake.) Pour 1/2 cup batter through funnel into hot oil, moving in a circular motion as you do so, to make each spiral-shaped funnel cake. Fry each spiral of batter until golden brown, about 2 or 3 minutes, remove with tongs and lay on paper toweling to absorb oil. Transfer to a plate and sprinkle powdered sugar through a sieve onto top of hot dough. Serve immediately.

Was not at all what I expected

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
A couple of friends and I decided to make funnel cake. We chose this recipe because of all the great reviews. However, it was... not at all what we expected. The funnel cake did not taste as sweet as normal funnel cake or as fluffy from other funnel cakes we've had before. We followed the recipe and we fried it in a professional fryer too. Just a bit disappointing. Read more

I was craving funnel cake this morning so decided to go for this recipe. I also looked up other recipes and Rachel Ray's... recipe and this one are quite similar so I figured this recipe has to turn out good. It actually turned out amazing and just what I was looking for. The only problem was that there was way too much batter and felt like it def serves more than 6 people. But then again I don't have much of a sweet tooth so that could also be it! Over all review, TASTED JUST LIKE THE ONES FROM 6 FLAGS! yummmm =] Read more

    Right off the boardwalk!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This is the one! Being a true Jersey girl, you can imagine my horror when my boyfriend of 4 years told me he had never had... funnel cake! I couldn't believe it. Went straight to the pantry and found everything I needed. I was really nervous about choosing a recipe 'cause he's the type that will only try something once. It was great! He loved it and I felt like I was on the boardwalk at Seaside Heights! So Authentic!Read more

I made these and instead of powdered sugar, i drizzled them with some chocolate sauce, then some caramel sauce, and topped... with chopped pecans. Turtle funnel cakes. OMG! they were heavenly! Not good if your on a diet though LOL! Read more
