You can create up to five timers

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and grated
  • 1 cup golden raisins
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar

Directions

Bring water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat and stir in salt and oats. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 3 minutes. Add apple, raisins, and brown sugar and stir for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let rest 2 minutes.

Serve with cream.

    This is very different from the way I usually make oatmeal, and now I see what I've been missing all these years. I followed the recipe precisely, with only one exception: I chopped the apple finely rather than grating it. All of the proportions are perfect. The oatmeal has just the right amount of sweetness, the right amount of salt. . .it's delicious, and so wholesome and nourishing. Do try this drizzled with heavy cream, as suggested at the end of the recipe. Since there is no butter in this oatmeal, I find that the cream plays a vital role. It adds a special touch of richness that makes the oatmeal more luxurious and satisfying.
