Ingredients
- 1 (16-ounce) tube sugar cookie dough
- 1 bag assorted round hard candies (recommended: Lifesavers)
- 1 small tube white decorating icing
- 1 package silver dragees
- 24 (8-inch) long pieces string or ribbon
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 sheet pans with silicone baking pads.
Slice dough log at 1/4-inch intervals and place onto prepared baking sheets spaced 1 inch apart.
Press a 1-inch round cutter into the center of each cookie round. Remove the small circle of dough and replace it with a round hard candy.
Bake in oven 8 to 10 minutes.
Remove from oven. While still warm, make a hole at the top of each cookie with a large straw. Place baking sheet on the cooling rack and cool completely.
When the cookies have completely cooled, use the decorative icing and evenly space 6 icing dots around the edges of each cookie. Lightly push the silver dragees into the icing dots. Allow icing to harden.
Place the 8-inch piece of ribbon through the hole at the top and tie the ends together.
Repeat with remaining cookies.
You can eat your cookies or hang them as ornaments on a Christmas tree or in a window.

These were so much fun to make, if the bakers that made these and did not have any luck, should really read and follow the directions. This could have made the difference in their review. Anyway these cookies were a hit at my Christmas cookie exchange party. Thank you Sandra Lee for being so creative.

These I didn't put the wholw threw the top and ribbon. Also, the lifesavers shouldn't be put in a whole because you then get more color on the bottom so just push them into the center of the cookie and it's fine. Mine grew a lot while baking so make the original dough cookies small. Also, I used parchment paper instead of the silicone baking sheet.

I was surprised to see the low ratings the Stained Glass cookies earned. After reading many of the comments I learned that my experience was unlike most others. My three year-old and I had a successful outcome. We had none of the candy sticking issues that others had. What I did differently...I bought a bag of hard candy from the $1 Store, I used parchment paper on my cookie sheets, and I used generic sugar cookie slice and bake dough. My candy melted beautifully and the cookies came out just right. Sorry to hear others were so disappointed. I'd suggest another try with some modifications. It's cheap and worth another effort.
