Ingredients

  • 1 (16-ounce) tube sugar cookie dough
  • 1 bag assorted round hard candies (recommended: Lifesavers)
  • 1 small tube white decorating icing
  • 1 package silver dragees
  • 24 (8-inch) long pieces string or ribbon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 sheet pans with silicone baking pads.

Slice dough log at 1/4-inch intervals and place onto prepared baking sheets spaced 1 inch apart.

Press a 1-inch round cutter into the center of each cookie round. Remove the small circle of dough and replace it with a round hard candy.

Bake in oven 8 to 10 minutes.

Remove from oven. While still warm, make a hole at the top of each cookie with a large straw. Place baking sheet on the cooling rack and cool completely.

When the cookies have completely cooled, use the decorative icing and evenly space 6 icing dots around the edges of each cookie. Lightly push the silver dragees into the icing dots. Allow icing to harden.

Place the 8-inch piece of ribbon through the hole at the top and tie the ends together.

Repeat with remaining cookies.

You can eat your cookies or hang them as ornaments on a Christmas tree or in a window.

Not a bad recipe, with a few alterations

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I suggest that you try crushing the Lifesavers first, then sprinking some (but not *all*) of the crushed Lifesaver into the... hole. That way, you can control the amount of candy you use, so you won't end up with a huge, thick piece in the middle. I've used the refrigerated gingerbread dough with crushed Lifesavers to make pretty holiday candle holders before, and I think crushing the candies and using less works much better. Also, you might want to try using crushed cinnamon disks instead of Lifesavers, so you get a flavor that is compatible with the cookie. You could even color the cookie dough with green food coloring before shaping it, so you get a pretty red & green cookie. Lastly, as someone else mentioned, dragees are not really meant to be eaten (although I've certainly eaten my share through the years! LOL) so you might want to consider using the tiny round candy sprinkles instead. You can usually find all red, green or white sprinkles at craft stores or even Walmart. Or, just decorate around the edge using piped frosting if you prefer. There's no law against adapting a recipe to better suit your tastes, you know. :)Read more

    to hard

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
i made them and my sister and i tried them. 1st the candy was to hard and it made the cookie even harder to chew. 2nd the... cookie itself didn't look so great.. 3rd the candy end up hurtin my tongue because it was a hard candy and was melt into a glass form. Overal i think the center should have been softer, a jelly kind center. and i think they should have put in 3 mins before the cookies are finish. I think on making it again but with gummy bears or anything sweet and chewy .. good luck to anyone that wat to take my suggestionRead more

    Unsuccessful

Like many others, I made these based on how pretty they looked on the website and the ease of the recipe. Long story short,... they ended up in the garbage. The cookies puffed and baked up right over the Lifesavers. You are better off just slicing the already made cookies, nixing the Lifesaver portion, and calling it a day.Read more

    Big Mistake cookie

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I made these cookies for part of my cookie exchange, and it was a mistake!!! I had my husband and friend test them before I... gave them away. My husband had me try it and it was the worst cookie I have evr tasted! Life savers and sugar cookies do not mix! They are not even cute cookies, they do not look like the picture at all.Read more

Sandra - how did you get your candy to show through???

Rated: 2 stars out of 5
I should have read the reviews before baking this cookie. I was so excited to bake these with my kids. We were all a little... disappointed - the dough baked up over the candy. Thanks for the tip to use the knife and push the dough back. I'm going to try it now on the last batch in the oven!Read more

    Are you kidding?

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I was so disappointed when I tried to make these cookies with my two children. Sure, I get that they would taste a little... strange - sugar cookies with life savers, but they didn't even turn out pretty enough to decorate. I don't know how she got them to look like the picture AND after reading other reviews, I realized I wasn't the only disappointed baker in the kitchen! Read more
