Ingredients

  • 8 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice, divided
  • 1/2 orange, zest finely grated
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Pour 6 1/2 ounces of the orange juice into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid, approximately 2 hours. Store the remaining 2 ounces of juice and the zest in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

In the carafe of a blender combine the frozen juice cubes, reserved orange juice and zest, milk, powdered sugar and vanilla, and blend until smooth and slushy, 30 to 45 seconds. Serve immediately.

    GREAT!

This was one of the best drinks I have had in a LONG time. I have actually never had a real Julius, but this still was... amazing. I had to use 1% milk, store-bought orange juice, and no zest. I can't wait to try it with the proper ingredients. The vanilla was a bit too strong (had to use some other kind than mentioned), but other than that, it was SO good.Read more

    Loved it, thanks Alton!

Wow, how wonderfully refreshing! I used some triple strength vanilla syrup in it and wahpow! Yummy. I must have a bit of a... sweet tooth because I would prefer a little honey in mine but love the froth that is a result of using the icing sugar. You rock Alton! ~ Suzie the FoodieRead more

I made a very similar recipe for a bridal shower. There were children, so I didn't include alcohol. I made a "granita" of... OJ to float in the punch bowl to keep it cold and slushy. My gosh, you've have thought these people were dying of thurst! I had to make another batch! For my next party however, I will definitely try this recipe. Alton has never let me down.Read more

    Perfect Quick Drink!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I love this- I made it twice today. I used what I had here, soy milk, cream, and store bought orange juice. I'm going to... get some oranges next time I'm at the store and try it with fresh juice. It was delicious with what I had though. I like the idea of adding coconut rum! I'll probably try that this weekend :) Read more
