Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, plus more for sprinkling
  • 4 large cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sherry
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 1/2 cup chopped scallions (green and white parts, mixed), plus more green tips for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon red chili flakes
  • 6 pounds short ribs, cut into thin pieces, about 2 1/2 inches long

Directions

Grind the sesame seeds in a coffee grinder until fine. Place the ground sesame seeds in a medium bowl and add the garlic, soy, sherry, honey, sesame oil, water, ginger, scallions, and red chili flakes; stir until thoroughly combined. Place the ribs in a large baking dish, pour the marinade over, and turn to coat. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.

Preheat the grill to medium-high. Remove the ribs from the marinade and grill on both sides until golden brown and crispy, about 15 minutes. Reduce the heat of the grill, close the cover, and grill until tender, about 15 minutes longer. Remove to a platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

Hey Bobby, these ribs are really excellent...

Had some friends over to try this recipe and each have asked to come back for more... Very tasty and tender on the first... try! Please ignore the negative, non-grilling hacks that feel the need to express poor emotions your way... All of the recipes I have tried from your show and off of the net are slammin'. Keep on Grillin' and BBQin' and best wishes to you and your family. Thank-you so much for the yummies!! You are truly gifted. God Bless.Read more

    A mouthful of flavor

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
The only way I could get thin shortrib meat was to buy it boneless. I wanted to try this before winter, when my grill will... be covered with three feet of snow. We found them to be truly delicious and full of flavor. I often make the serrano sauce and shrimp and love the sauce, so I made some for the short ribs, too. Lisa, I believe you are thinking of an episode where Jen Lee made her family's recipes. I don't care where the recipe came from (Bobby never said it was his original recipe), I just know that I wouldn't have had access to this wonderful recipe if I hadn't seen it on Bobby's show. If your meat was tough, it was probably overcooked.Read more

    What did I do wrong?

I followed this recipe to the T. The ribs were very tough. What we could chew was very, very good. Everyone here said they... were so good. Any tips? I have a commercial gas BBQ that has cast iron grids. Maybe too hot? Read more

    He's not a hack

For the previous writer.....I've seen the episode on tv. I think this is the one with his Korean friend cooking her mom's... family recipe. They did a while episode on this Korean dinner, including the appetizers, etc. His Korean friend was the special guest that day and practically hosted the show. I'm not sure why it wasn't implemented in the recipe description though. Read more

You're a hack! This is not your recipe!

This is a Korean kalbi recipe that has been here since the dawn of time. Nothing original. You suck. It's one thing if you... modified it to be your own version - (ex: you can have your own personal spaghetti recipe or something) and it's another thing when you use the same base recipe that every mom and every restaurant in Korea have been using for the last... oh couple of thousands of years. I give it 5 stars because it tastes good. You get no stars because this ain't yours, bro.Read more
