Ingredients

  • Ice cubes

Original margarita:

  • 3 parts white tequila
  • 2 parts Triple Sec
  • 1 part fresh lime juice

Simple syrup:

  • 1 part water
  • 1 part sugar

Lime salt:

  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 2 limes, zested

Margarita bar:

  • Original margarita, in pitchers
  • Buckets of ice and shakers
  • Pineapple-Jalapeno base for margarita, recipe follows
  • Strawberry base for margarita, recipe follows
  • Lime-Ginger base for margarita, recipe follows
  • Simple syrup, poured on a plate to dip glass in
  • Lime salt

For the original margarita:

Directions

Ratio for any volume of margarita: 3:2:1 = 3 parts tequila: 2 parts Triple Sec, 1 part lime juice. Place whichever amount you choose, depending upon your guests, into a large pitcher.

For the simple syrup:

Simmer water and sugar over high heat until the sugar has completely dissolved then chill.

For the lime salt:

Combine the salt and lime zest with a mortar and pestle. Set in a plate to dip your glass in.

For the margarita bar:

Have buckets if ice and shakers set up around the margarita pitchers.

Fill glasses with ice, original margarita and flavor profiles, if desired.

Dip the rims of the glasses into the simple syrup then into the lime-salt so the salt sticks to the rim of the glass.

Pour the mixed drink into your salted glass and enjoy.

Pineapple-Jalapeno:

  • 2 cups chopped fresh pineapple
  • 1/2 fresh seeded jalapeno
  • 2 cups simple syrup

In a blender, combine fresh pineapple chunks with seeded jalapeno and simple syrup together until you have a nice yellow puree. Add, to taste, to original margarita.

Strawberry:

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 2 cups simple syrup

Puree strawberries in a blender with simple syrup until you have a bright pink puree. Add, to taste, to original margarita.

Lime-Ginger:

  • 2 cups simple syrup
  • 2 limes
  • 6 slices fresh ginger

Simmer simple syrup with ginger slices and finish with fresh lime juice then cool and set in refrigerator overnight to infuse ginger flavor. Add slices of fresh lime just before serving. Add, to taste, to original margarita

Great recipes... big hit at parties... Have been using it since 2009 and keep having requests for the Lime ginger. The jalapeno is also a pleasant surprise for everyone. We used club soda for the non alcohol drinkers to mix with the syrups..

I want to make the pine/jala marg. but I am confused by the directions. I get the 3:2:1 ratio part - but when adding the pineapple mixture is where I get confused. the pineapple part is 2 cups simple syrup - but how much tequila mix do I make to mix with the 2 cups - I mean 3:2:1 can mean anything, 3,2,1 cups? Ounces? 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 cups? do you see what I mean? does the simple syrup ratio of 1 to 1 equal the same measure as the tequila mix of 3:2:1. The recipe is too vague.

I made this recently for a 4th of July party - we had around 50 adults and kids over for a big cook out. We spent spring break in Mexico and brought back some nice margarita grade tequila for our party.

I made all the mixes as directed. I found that two parts of the alcohol blend to one part of the flavor mix was just about right. For the kids and non drinkers we had soda water and they used the flavor mixes to make yummy sodas.

I made a double batch of the strawberry using berries that we picked and froze a few weeks before. High quality frozen berries worked great and I think they are a better (and maybe less costly choice than out of season fresh berries.

I only made one batch of the Lime Ginger and it was not enough for our crowd. It was very yummy! It made a great margarita and soda. My only mistake with setting up the bar was not having more of this mix.

I made one batch of the Pineapple Jalapeno and it produced more that the Lime Ginger. We maybe would have drank more of it if it was available but we had enough to last most of the party. I was afraid of this one but it was really good. The jalapeno was not spicy hot, instead it added a nice dimension to the sweetness of the pineapple. This one really surprised people. if you really like spice and heat you might consider adding some cayenne to the shaker or to the salt for the rim.

Before juicing your limes be sure to zest them for the salt. A very simple idea but it is a lovely touch. I set my kids (7 and 3 up with the salt and zest in a mortar and pestle and they had fun making this.

We set everything out on the counter (I saved old bottles to hold the ingredients, labeled them and placed them on ice, showed people how to mix the first few, and left instructions. Everyone enjoyed getting the mix to their liking and had a lot of fun. With the soda water the non drinkers and kids felt like they were really part of the action.
