Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
  • 3 cups vodka
  • 1 liter tonic
  • Lime slices, for garnish

Directions

Combine the cranberries and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the vanilla extract or split vanilla bean and cook, stirring, until the cranberries burst, 5 to 6 minutes.

Divide the cranberry mixture between 2 large mason jars. Divide the vodka between the jars. Cover and refrigerate for 1 week. Strain out the cranberries. Store the flavored vodka in a clean jar in the refrigerator.

For each drink, pour 2 ounces cranberry vodka over ice in a tall glass; top with tonic. Garnish with a slice of lime.

I made several batches & gave the jars as Christmas presents. I've heard nothing but rave reviews! Will be a really good hot summer night cocktail.

Very refreshing. I used leftover cranberry sauce. I did not follow the recipe exactly, since the cranberry sauce I make has orange peel in it instead of vanilla.

I have loved EVERYTHING about Michael Chiarello, from his easy manner to his approachable foods. This drink is AWESOME! It doesn't even taste like it has any vodka in it (but it DOES. So refreshing and light! Definitely something you need with such a heavy feast as Thanksgiving, but also ideal for a summer BBQ! And so easy to make!
