Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter, plus 1 tablespoon for greasing
  • 4 medium yams or sweet potatoes, peeled
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9 by 13-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon butter.

Cut each of the yams into 8 evenly shaped wedges. Lay them out in the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and allow to dissolve. Mix in syrup and cook until smooth. Pour the glaze over the yams and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for about 45 minutes or until the yams are tender when pierced with a fork but they still hold their shape.

These sweet potatoes are amazing! We devoured them on Christmas. Probably could do with a tbsp less of butter, but otherwise... they were perfect.Read more

    'The Best Glazed Sweet Potatoes"

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This recipe is simple and delicious. I decided to try a new recipe for my Thanksgiving dinner. I checked out the ratings of... this recipe and I was not disappointed. My mother-in-law, of 30 years, is a great cook from Mississippi who has never had seconds of my sweet potaotes until this year. She raved about the taste of nutmeg that is used in this recipe. I am a former Home Economist and I take pride in being an excellent cook.. I sliced my potatoes crosswised instead of horizontal and I tripled the recipe. I hosted about 20 guests but I put a little away for myself. The next time I bake this dish, I will prepare it the the night before. It tasted even better the next day after the flavors of the nutmeg and the maple syrurp soaked into the potatoes. If this recipe excited my mother-in-law's taste buds , I know the average tongue will love it. I love to watch the Neely's. I wish they would do a show from Charlotte in the future. best and easiest sweet potatoes

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
No kidding! This is the best recipe for sweet potatotes short of mashing them with cream and pinapple juice and spices. It... was a snap to put together and even a greater hit while enjoying them as a side to barbecue. I left the skin on for greater fiber, vitamins and stability.Read more
