Ingredients

2 thick slices good white bread
2 teaspoons sugar or vanilla sugar
1 cup milk

Directions

Tear the bread into rough chunks, and sprinkle with the sugar. Warm the milk and pour over the bread and sugar to serve.

Just like Dad made (almost!)

If it was with warm milk and buttered toast (the butter is key!), he called it 'milk toast' and he made this for us when we... were sick. If it was with cold milk and untoasted bread, it was 'bread and milk' and he made it for me (and him), usually in the summertime for a quick breakfast or late-night snack. Great memories! Very comforting and nostalgic

I remember my grandfather eating something like this when I was a child. I hadn't thought of it in years until I saw this... episode air. I made it tonight, but I drizzled honey over the bread rather than sugar and sprinkled a little Pumpkin Pie spice over it as well. It was wonderful.
