Ingredients

  • 2 (16-ounce) bags whole frozen green beans
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 small yellow skinned onion, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup apple cider
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

Put the beans in a large microwave safe bowl, loosely cover bowl with plastic food storage wrap and microwave on high 5 minutes. Uncover and stir the beans, then cover and microwave on high 4 to 7 minutes more, until desired doneness, from still-crisp to tender, but with a bite.

Heat a small skillet over medium low heat. Add a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil and the onions and cook until beginning to caramelize, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the cider, raise the heat to medium high and cook until liquid is reduced and syrupy, about 5 minutes.

Remove the beans from microwave. Season the beans with salt and pepper, to taste, and add to the pan with the onions and cider. Toss evenly to coat the beans and keep warm until ready to serve.

    not so much

I use this website for my meals constantly. This sounded like an interesting idea and I just wanted to warn people, it is... interesting. My boyfriend and I both love to try new food combinations and are not picky at all and we had a few bites to see if we could like them but ended up tossing them. Bummer! It sounded like such a good idea! Just warning you all, not good. Read more

    We added bacon

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
We cooked a few slices of bacon, cooked the onion in a couple tablespoons of the left over bacon grease, then follow the rest... of the directions accordingly. This makes a great dish...especially if start it the day before and let it sit in the refrig overnight...just don't forget to not cook the beans all of the way.Read more

They were just ok. I was hoping for a stronger flavor from the sauce.

    So So

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
I like green beans, I like onion, I like apple cider. I'm just not a big fan of them all together. I tried making it with... shallots. It all turned out just fine, but something about it didn't quite taste right. Edible, but I probably won't be making very often.Read more

This is better than how she cooked it on TV

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I liked the instructions with this recipe better than what I remembered her doing on TV. They were delicious despite my... skeptical family's looks when I told them I was making a sauce for the green beans with cider!Read more

    Loved it

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this just as it says except I used 2 cups of cider. I still reduced it and then added int he green beans. My family... loved it. Even my youngest son who despises green beans had seconds! I will make this again. Very easy, fast and tasty.Read more
