Boozy Blended Root Beer Float

The blended root beer float is a summer favorite in Oklahoma. Ree has taken things up a notch with alcoholic root beer to make an irresistibly indulgent frozen cocktail.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream

One 12-ounce alcoholic root beer

Toppings:

Canned whipped cream

Malted milk balls

Caramel Sauce, recipe follows, to drizzle

Caramel Sauce:

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) salted butter

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

Special equipment:
two 16-ounce glasses
  1. Chill two 16-ounce glasses in the freezer for 30 minutes or so.
  2. To a blender, add the ice cream and alcoholic root beer. Blend until thoroughly incorporated, 15 to 30 seconds.
  3. Pour into chilled glasses and top with whipped cream, malted milk balls and caramel sauce.

Caramel Sauce:

  1. Add the sugar, butter, heavy cream, vanilla and salt to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it thickens and turns into a delicious sauce, 5 minutes.
