Ingredients

Raspberry Coulis:

Beignets:

  • 2 (24-ounce) bottles canola, vegetable or safflower oil, for frying
  • 2 packages or 10 biscuits buttermilk biscuit dough
  • Powdered sugar, for garnish

Directions

In a blender, add raspberries, powdered sugar and lemon juice. Puree until smooth and combined. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve leaving behind solids. Set aside.

In a large pot over medium-high heat, add the oil and bring to 375 degrees F.

When the oil has reached temperature, remove biscuits from package and roll each biscuit into a ball. Carefully add dough to pot, frying in batches. Fry for about 4 minutes or until golden brown. Using a slotted spoon, remove beignets to a plate lined with a paper towel.

Dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately with raspberry sauce.

haven't tried, but plan to as it seems quick and easy for a tasty snack, but will stick to powdered sugar. To those naysayers, I too have had beignets in the Big Easy and picked up a mix there also. The mix was not so great (and I'm an experienced cookso these substitutes will probably be just fine unless I decide to make beignets from scratch, or take a trip to NOLA. Keep it up, Sandra, we can always use new tips and shortcuts.

I thought these tasted really good and they were beyond easy to make! I understand that they may not be a traditional beignet like in New Orleans, but they are still a pretty delicious snack! I don't know why everyone is getting bent out of shape about it. If you don't like her, her show, or her recipes, then don't watch! Simple as that!
