Ingredients

  • 1 (26-ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans diced pears in syrup
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 (18.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 stick butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 (1.19-ounce) packet maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Whipped topping, for serving

Directions

Spray a 5-quart slow cooker with butter-flavored cooking spray and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine pie filling, pears, and almond extract. Pour into prepared slow cooker. Sprinkle cake mix over fruit mixture. Dot with butter. In a small bowl, combine oatmeal packet and almonds. Sprinkle over cake mixture.

Place 8 paper towels over slow cooker bowl and secure with lid. (This helps to trap steam.) Cook on LOW setting for 4 to 6 hours. Do not lift lid to check cake for the first 3 hours.

Serve warm with whipped topping.

Very good! I also tried it with sweetened cooked apple slices and canned cherry pie filling with OJ for liquid. I did as suggested, putting several layers of paper towels under the lid. 5 hours on low.

Sandra really hit this one out of the park!

I made the buckle for the first time this morning, using one can of apple pie filling, pure vanilla extract, a 4-pack of Delmonte No Sugar Added Diced Pears undrained, a box of Pillsbury Sugar Free Classic Yellow Cake Mix, a pack of cinnamon and spice oatmeal, and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. I did not use almonds or any other nut.

I put the ingredients in the crockpot, covered it with paper towels/lid, cooked it on low for 5 hours, and the buckle turned out PERFECTLY! I really don't see how anyone can mess this up IF they follow the directions. This is as easy as it gets. Trust me, if I can pull off a flawless buckle, anybody can! I topped it with fat-free Cool Whip instead of ice cream...DELICIOUS!!!

Oh boy! What to say? I made this throughout the recent holiday season and everytime it was a HIT. The real part that takes it to another level is the whipped cream. The dish in itself is very rich because of the butter an the whipped cream gives it a lighter taste. It's really great if you have a potluck at work (like I did. I brought in my slow cooker and added the ingredients and while I worked, it cooked. Then, after our 2am (we are night shift potluck dinner, we had a warm treat waiting for us! YUM! YUM! YUM! Oh...and if you cook it a little over to where the edges get crispy....uhmmm!
