Ingredients

  • 2 big handfuls fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 jalapeno, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, grated
  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Pinch sugar
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 (6-ounce) block sushi-quality tuna
  • 1 ripe avocado, halved, peeled, pitted, and sliced

Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine the cilantro, jalapeno, ginger, garlic, lime juice, soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Stir the ingredients together until well incorporated.

Place a skillet over medium-high heat and coat with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Season the tuna generously with salt and pepper. Lay the tuna in the hot oil and sear for 1 minute on each side to form a slight crust. Pour 1/2 of the cilantro mixture into the pan to coat the fish. Serve the seared tuna with the sliced avocado and the remaining cilantro sauce drizzled over the whole plate.

i made this several times and it always comes out great. easy to make. the sauce is what i think makes the dish, with the... avocados, cliantro, yumm! i wonder how it'd taste if i just left the tuna raw instead of searing the outside. anyone knows?Read more

The perfect blend of citrus and heat!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This recipe is so flavorful! It's a very refreshing summer dish. So good I'll be making it all winter. Of course, the ahi... needs to be really fresh. The seasoning is perfect as is. I made it with a big salad butter leaf salad and kept dipping my salad in the marinade as a dressing. It's that good. Healthy and satisfying!Read more

The best seared tuna recipe I've found!

The marinade for this recipe is great. I make it the day before and let the tuna marinade overnight. It's delicious without... avocado, as I never seem to have that on hand. Read more

    Amazing and Easy!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I recently cooked this for my family and they loved it! Instead of using tuna, I used salmon; and instead of serving raw, I... ended up cooking the fish throughout (family's not a big fan of raw fish). In the end the food turned out amazingly delicious. The recipe does yield a large amount of sauce though like everyone has been saying, but nonetheless, the extras can be drizzled over rice or something!Read more
