Ingredients

  • 1 head Savoy cabbage
  • 4 scallions
  • 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, torn
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 limes
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Directions

Shave the cabbage with a sharp knife or mandoline so you have thin ribbons. Cut the scallions long and on the bias so you have pieces similar in shape to the cabbage. Toss the cabbage, scallions and cilantro in a large salad bowl.

Make the dressing by combining the sour cream, mayonnaise, sugar and the zest of the limes in a medium bowl. Season with salt and pepper and finish with a squeeze of lime juice. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine.

I loved this; and I usually do not like coleslaw. I couldn't find savoy cabbage in the store, so I substituted half red and half green cabbage. I also took the hint to add cucumbers. What really made up for the lack of savoy I think was the super fresh cilantro I added from my garden. It has such a stronger smell and taste than the store bought kind has. I made this as a side dish with Roasted Pineapple Ginger Chicken with Cilantro Cream Sauce for a dinner party. It was a big hit- all the guests enjoyed both recipes together.

This is so yummy I can't stop eating it! It's a nice twist on coleslaw. I added in some sliced cucumbers, next time I think I will add in jalepenos! Even my picky mother (who doesn't like coleslaw enjoyed it! Will be making this again. Thanks Tyler!

This is my new & preferred slaw. I've added jalapeno pepper to it and it works beautifully. Friends and family are craving this at every event.
