Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Butter and syrup, for serving

Directions

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; mix well. Add the milk, vegetable oil, egg, sugar and vanilla and mix well. Let the batter sit for 30 minutes.

Preheat a waffle iron. Do not use non-stick spray on the waffle iron; the oil in the batter will allow the waffle to release easily. Follow the directions on your waffle iron to cook the waffles. Serve immediately with butter and syrup.

Not great, but very good waffles

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
Wy husband and I made these for the first time and they were really good and easy. The only problem is the amount of salt. ... They were extremely salty. The next time we made them we used 1/4 tsp. of kosher salt and they were just right.Read more

    Best Waffles Ever

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
My family loves these waffles and they are so easy to make. I make them exactly as the recipe is written. I do double them,... though, as they don't make very many waffles. I didn't spray my waffle iron and they came out easily. I highly recommend!Read more

    simply delicious

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
i've made these waffles several times (w/ buttermilk) and i have to say that they are the tastiest waffles i've eaten. i add... a bit a lemon zest to kick up the flavor and they are simply delicious. the only things i might change is folding in the egg white to make the waffle a bit lighter and i definitely spray my waffle iron. the one time i didn't spray the waffle stuck. my waffles brown beautifully and my family loves them. for those who had issues when substituting ingredients and such i would stick to the original recipe and you will probably yield better results next time otherwise it may just be your technique.Read more

    SO SIMPLE, SO GOOD !!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
TRY IT, THIS ONE WILL NOT DISAPPOINT ! After trying all sorts of recipes, most requiring the whipping of egg whites, I... thought this recipe sounds way too easy to be anything special. Boy was I wrong. I followed the recipe to the letter, used a standard waffle iron instead of a belgium type (just my preference), used the amount of batter my waffle iron suggests to avoid overflowing, and got perfect waffles. The batter was thin, but it made no difference, and just as the recipe says, I didn't even need to spray my iron. Read more
