I tried this recipe for the first time this week. I had read some of the other reviews so I skipped adding the salt, and I used whole grain flour instead of white. The result was an airy and spongy texture with a slightly sweet flavor. The only reason I didn't give this recipe five stars is because it doesn't exactly look pretty since it is drop dough. This is now my go to when making shortcake. :D

I'm guessing "3/4 teaspoon salt" should be "3/4 teaspoon kosher salt" and "2 tablespoons butter" should be "2 tablespoons unsalted buuter" because these turned out like salty pretzels. Had to go in the trash.

I love this recipe. These shortcakes were so simple to make. I doubled the amount of sugar and used a mixture of heavy cream, 2% milk, and whole buttermilk because I didn't have any half and half on hand. Whenever making a quick bread type recipe, I always add an extra tablespoon of butter. (It works for me! The cakes were very fluffy and were just about perfect for my strawberry shortcake. Like some other reviewers said, I think these cakes need a touch more sweetness. Next time I will add 3 tablespoons of sugar.
