Instead of using All-purpose flour, regular milk, & vegetable oil, instead use Self-rising flour, evaporated milk, shortening, & eliminate the baking powder altogether. Also use 1/4 cup of sugar for every cup of flour & whatever else you'd like such as jalapeños, cream corn. With my tweaks this recipe is delicious.

Awful. Just awful. At first taste there was nothing evidently wrong--except lack of any flavor. But the aftertaste was disgusting. I really think 7 TABLESPOONS of baking powder is the WRONG measurement. It was gross and no one ate it. Needs more flavor and less baking powder.

i made only half of this recipe - one pan. i added one can of smoked chili peppers and one can of sweet corn. my husband just loved it.
still i would like to make some remarks; cooking took more then 20 min, i greased the pan but i definitely didn't keep the pan in the oven before pouring the batter.
