Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound fresh cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Directions

Put the cranberries, orange and lemon zest, orange and lemon juice, sugar, vanilla, and 1 1/2 cups of the water in a medium-size nonreactive saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and cook for 8 minutes.

Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining 1/2 cup of water and add to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium, then stir constantly until the mixture thickens, about 2 minutes.

Remove from the heat and cool completely.

This did not work for me. It would not thicken. I followed the recipe exactly except the bag of cranberries was 12 oz instead of 8. Down the disposal and to the grocery store.

My family thought this recipe was the star of our Thanksgiving dinner. My oldest son said it's better than gravy. I can't imagine higher praise than that. With that said, I stayed true to the recipe. We're not big sugar eaters so maybe that's why we didn't need the extra sugar.

this recipe had mixed reviews but I decided to try it anyway. I love the flavor, it "pops" in your mouth. But, I do agree about 1/2 cup more of sugar. Since your not eating alot at a time the additional sugar should not make a difference calorie-wise. I will be making this again.... just with more sugar. TRy it.
