Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, plus 3 tablespoons
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt into a bowl.

With a handheld or standing mixer, beat together the shortening and butter. Add the 1 1/2 cups sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the flour mixture and blend until smooth.

Mix the 3 tablespoons sugar with the cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll the dough, by hand, into 1 1/2-inch balls. Roll the balls in the cinnamon sugar. Flatten the balls into 1/2-inch thick disks, spacing them evenly on unlined cookie sheets. Bake until light brown, but still moist in the center, about 12 minutes. Cool on a rack.

Wow!!! These are ah-mazing!! This is my husband's favorite kind of cookie, so I decided to make them for Father's Day- he LOVES them!!
Based on other reviews, I added 1 tsp of vanilla and 1 tsp of cream of tartar.
I tend to bake cookies too long, so I purposely pulled mine out of the oven after 9 min/15 sec. This was the perfect baking time for my oven.
As for the cinnamon/sugar mixture, I put the dough balls in the bowl and tossed them around to get complete coverage. Then, I sprinkled a tiny bit more on the top of each cookie (which I will definitely do each time I make them in the future! That way, they have a really yummy coating of sugar and cinnamon!
I highly recommend this recipe! I will make these again!!

I made these last night, and neither my son nor I could eat them. Something was wrong. I followed the recipe to a T. We both actually tried two, thinking something was off with the first one.

This is the first time I've actually had to throw home-made cookies away.

I am glad I read the reviews before I made these. Anything with 5 stars gets my attention. This truly is a great recipe, however snickerdooles traditionally have Cream of Tartar in them. I added 1 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar and 1 teasoon of vanilla. They came out awesome. Only 4 stars due to the fact that I had to modify the recipe.
