Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup apple juice
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 firm Bosc pears, peeled, halved, cored (about 1 pound)
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Arrange the pears cut side up in an 8-inch square glass baking dish. Whisk the apple juice and sugar in a small heavy saucepan over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves. Whisk in the butter. Pour the sauce over the pears. Bake until the pears are crisp-tender and beginning to brown, basting occasionally with the juices, about 35 minutes.

Spoon the pears onto plates. Top with ice cream. Drizzle with any juices and serve.

The pears can also be served frozen. To do so, cool the pears, then place them in the freezer until frozen solid, about 8 hours.

    Love it

I made this dessert tonight, so simple and delicious. I added some of my own touches which consisted of a sprinkle of... cinnamon and instead of ice cream, I used whipped cream. And garnished with caramel syrup. Yummy!!!Read more

Easy, tasty and affordable to make

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I thought this was very tasty considering how easy it was to make with such simple ingredients. I liked that I could make... this dessert on a budget with items I normally have in the pantry. It didn't keep so well in the fridge overnight. It still tasted as good, but the butter solidified and the pears got really dark from absorbing the syrup. I would make this again!Read more

    Simple Recipe, Decadent Dessert!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I am not a fan of roasted pears or baked apples in lieu of chocolate or pies and pastries for dessert. However, we were... having a dinner party last year and one of the guests has celiac disease so I was looking for gluten-free options for dessert. I saw this recipe on Everyday Italian and decided to give it a try. I LOVE it...every bit as much as any other holiday dessert. I panicked a little when I couldn't find the recipe because I plan to make it again this year. I was thankful to find it online. This is a must...a very decadent dessert and good for company.Read more

My family loves this recipe and its simplicity is a bonus. It would be a great dessert for a small dinner party, too.
