Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup brewed espresso
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

Directions

In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Add the allspice, cinnamon, and ginger to the simple syrup and simmer for 5 minutes. Take pan off heat and set aside. To the 1 cup of brewed espresso, add 1 cup of boiling water. Pour 1/2 cup of espresso into each of 4 (6 to 8-ounce) serving cups. Add 2 tablespoons of the spiced simple syrup to each cup and stir to combine. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer with a whisk attachment, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add the confectioners' sugar and continue to beat until stiff. Top each cup of espresso with a dollop of whipped cream. Dust with cinnamon and serve.

Really good! I usually don't like black coffee, it has to be a cappuccino, mocha, or something like that. My husband only likes black coffee or espresso. We loved it! We have an Italian espresso maker but used my Nespresso, which I adore. If you use that, each shot of espresso is 1/4 cup, so you can plan accordingly. I also agree with another reviewer. It is too sweet! So even though I used 1/2 cup of water and 3/4 of sugar next time I'll use 1/2 cup each.

Love it!! This tastes way better than a crappy Starbucks latte. I love making my own syrup because it really only takes 5 min.
I didn't feel like beating cream so I just added half and half instead - it came out delicious.
