Ingredients

  • 1 pound 8 1/2 ounces (750 grams) Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
  • 9 ounces (250 ounces) dried cranberries
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 12 fluid ounces (350 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 7 ounces (200 grams) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Directions

Slice the apples into halves. Slice the halves lengthways into smaller pieces, roughly 1/4-inch width. Place the apple pieces and finely chopped onion into a saucepan with all the other ingredients. Heat the mixture until it is simmering quickly. Cook the mixture for 45 minutes, or until the chutney has thickened slightly and the fruit has become soft.

Spoon the mixture into sterilized jars and screw the lids onto the jars tightly. Allow to cool before storing in a cool, dark place.

    Too much vinegar!

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
This has way too much vinegar in it. I had to go back this morning and read the recipe again, just to make sure i hadn't... made a mistake. Read more

    Fabulous chutney!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this last year and received rave reviews - especially from my English mother-in-law. I plan to make it again for this... Christmas. And, I can say that the shelf life is very long since we eat it well into the winter months.Read more

    The best cranberry chutney!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I make several chutneys, this is one of the very best! It goes with ham, lamb, duck, goose, turkey and even chicken. This... one is also very high in antioxidants, especially if you use raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar. The purpose of eating chutney with meats is to aid digestion, while eating something that tastes good!Read more

Stop rating recipes you haven't tried!

For blessed sake, people! This is a place to rate a tested recipe, NOT FOR ANYTHING ELSE. It is not a place to illustrate... your incompetence, to vent your personal frustrations, or to comment about anything other than the RECIPE AT HAND. AND, BTW, the chutney is great., though I twaeked the spices just a touch for my family's taste. Read more

    MEL, it WAS shown.

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
It was shown on TV just a few days ago, I watched it. Same show with the roast ham, with which the chutney goes with.
