Ingredients

  • 6 cups prepared barbecued baked beans, any brand -- the large can
  • 3 slices bacon, chopped, 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, a couple of handfuls
  • 1 teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley leaves, optional

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Pour beans into casserole dish and place in oven.

In a small nonstick skillet, cook bacon over medium high heat 2 to 3 minutes. Add onions and cook 3 minutes longer. Slide the beans out of the oven. Scatter the onions and bacon around the beans. Sprinkle the brown sugar and black pepper over the onions.

Bake beans with toppings 10 minutes longer. Garnish the beans with parsley and serve.

Awww c'mon to the bottom post

To the bottom post, if you need to use a can opener it is not considered a recipe? If you look under the headline it does say... 30 minute meals! Just a short cut instead of soaking beans for 24 hours! Relax.Read more

It's pretty sad when doctoring up a can of beans passes as a "recipe." Right up there with her sherbet dessert wherein we are... instructed to put 3 scoops in a bowl, or Sandra Lee's soup calling for "a can of condensed soup." Yah, can opener slinging is pretty tough, isn't it?Read more

Made this recipe over the summer for a family BBQ. Thought I made too much but it was a Big Hit! Almost all gone, and I had... requests for the little left over there was. Everyone loved it. Have made it a couple of times since and always get good reviews. I held back on the parsley though and also add a little more bacon then it calls for...Read more
