Baking traditions have always been important in my family, from gooey cinnamon rolls to pretty stained glass cookies and delicious fruit desserts. This particular style of tart is one of my favorites, as it reminds me of comfort food from my childhood—nothing beats a buttery, flaky crust and sweet, tender fruit.

Ingredients

Directions

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Unroll the crescent dough onto a piece of parchment paper. If using dinner rolls, press the perforated seams together with your fingers to make one solid piece. Roll the dough into a 12-by-9-inch rectangle.

Melt the butter in a large bowl in the microwave, then stir in the preserves, almond extract and salt until well combined. Add the pears and toss to coat.

Arrange the pears on the prepared dough in an overlapping pattern, leaving a 1-inch border all around. Fold the border over the pears, pinching the corners to seal. Brush the dough with butter. Slide the parchment with the tart onto a baking sheet and bake until the crust is puffed and golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes.

Sprinkle the tart with the almonds and drizzle with the honey. Serve with ice cream, if desired.
