Ingredients

Crescent Ring:

  • 2 (8-ounce) containers refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 (7-ounce) container pure almond paste
  • 1/4 cup seedless red raspberry jam or cherry jam

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure almond extract
  • Sugar-dipped cherries and small pears, optional

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Line a heavy large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Unroll crescent dough; separate along dough perforations into 16 triangles. Overlap 8 dough triangles on prepared baking sheet, positioning longest points in center and forming a 10-inch-diameter dough disk. Press edges of triangles together to seal.

Using a rolling pin, roll out almond paste between 2 sheets of waxed paper into a 9-inch diameter disk. Place almond disc atop dough disk. Spread jam over almond paste . Using remaining 8 dough triangles, arrange second 10-inch diameter dough disk atop jam. Pinch edges of dough disks to seal. Tuck edges under. Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes.

While ring is baking, make glaze by stirring powdered sugar, water, and almond extract together in a medium bowl until smooth. Drizzle half of glaze over warm crescent. Let glaze set for 10 minutes and then drizzle remaining glaze over. Decorate with sugar-dipped cherries and small pears, if desired.

    Christmas Crescent Ring

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I'm a new semi-homemaker and saw this recipe on Sandra Lee's show. I needed a recipe for a book club party and tried it. It... was so easy and so delicious, my company went crazy! I had cherry preserves instead of jam, and used 1/2 cup instead of 1/4 cup. I also used a little less almond paste and sprinkled toasted almonds on top when the icing was still wet. Thank you Sandra Lee!Read more

    Love it

I made this last New Years for my annual New Years Brunch and again this year. It was a great hit! I used almond filling... instead of almond paste, since they didn't have the paste at the grocery store. I did find it hard to make a circle out of the triangles. So it wasn't really a circle. But everyone loved it. I don't know why people are saying they hated it, I guess you have to like almond paste, or almond flavoring. Everyone at home likes it, and we all have a sweet tooth. I enjoy alot of Sandra Lee's recipes.Read more

Why all the Fat & Salt?

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I was thinking about giving this a whirl and decided to throw caution to the wind and go for it. What a disaster! My kids,... who will eat anything, took one bite and left the rest. My husband literaly just looked at the ingredients and laughed - needless to say he stayed clear of the crescent ring. Trust me when I say this: If my kids won't even eat it - it's a no go.... PS - what's with all the trans-fat and salt? Can Sandra not make some of her own dough with no hydrogentaed oils and 2000+ mg of sodium? Laziness will always get you in the end....Read more

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this last year for christmas morning and it was a huge hit! It was inexpensive to make and so easy. I pre-made it the... night before and put in the fridge, and in the morning all i had to do was pop it in the oven:) The only difference i did was omitted the almond paste. I suggest you give this a try it is so delicious!!!!!Read more

    VERY Sweet

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I made this on Christmas for my boyfriend and myself and we really loved it. It was very messy to make, and the almond paste... provided a challenge (however, due to my frustration, I used a lot less of it then the recipe called for, and that may cut back on what some other users described as a "too-almondy" taste). I know some people might question the use of crescent rolls for a pastry, but this is a SEMI-homemade recipe, and I happened to like the taste with the raspberry and the icing. It is really sweet though, so I'd only recommend it to someone with a serious sugar tooth! Delicious!Read more
