Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium sweet onion, very finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 cans red kidney beans, drained
  • 1 jar marinara meat sauce (recommended: Paul Newman's)
  • 1 package chili seasoning, minus 1 tablespoon reserved for rolls (recommended: Shilling's)
  • Shredded cheese, for garnish
  • Sour cream, for garnish
  • Minced chives, for garnish

Directions

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onion and saute until softened. Crumble in the ground beef and cook until browned. Add beans and marinara sauce and combine thoroughly. Stir in chili seasoning, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 minutes. Spoon into individual bowls and garnish with shredded cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and chives.

My Go-To Easy Chili Recipe (Healthy too :)

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I just graduated college and I have made this chili multiple times for myself, my boyfriend, and his roomates and we LOVED... it! I, like some other reviewers said, like spicing it up by using the HOT chili spice mix. This recipes is also extremely easy to make HEALTHY by using ground chicken or turkey and a low-fat, low-calorie marinara sauce. I skip the cheese as a topping and use fat-free sour cream and fat-free saltines. This chili takes no time to make and tastes likes its been cooking all day long. Delicious and if you tweek a couple things can be guiltless.Read more

Excellent Chili and i am a Texan!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
We were having some people over for New Years Day and I volunteered to make some chili. I couldn't find my old recipe so I... jumped on my MacBook and headed to the Food Network to find a recipe. I looked at several and read some reviews and decided on the wonderful Sandra Lee's Chunky Chili recipe. I must say I was a little worried about the marinara sauce but I figured enough people in the reviews had said it worked so I proceeded to the store and bought my ingredients. Now I did make a few modifications. I did add a medium yellow and red pepper to the onion (I have never liked green peppers, but that is me). I also used pinto beans instead of kidney beans because, as I said, I am from Texas. This Chili probably took me about 20 minutes to make and most of this time was browning the beef. The chili was awesome! It tasted better than my old chili recipe that I made from scratch an cooked for a day. My guests couldn't stop talking about the chili. So easy and soooo good! Oh it didn't say anything about which Toddy to pair with this dish but I chose Shiner Holiday Cheer beer. A wonderful Texas beer with a hint of Peach. I wish they made this beer year round. Read more

    Not spicy enough

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
I am usually a wimp when it comes to spicy chili, but even I thought this needed more spice. I had to add some spices, then... I ended up with an OK chili.Read more

I used this recipe (I did add bell pepper) for a chili-cook off for my school and came in second place. Reviewers said it was... an authentic chili dish - what comes to mind when you think of chili.Read more
