Ingredients

  • 1 cup gummy worms or other creepy crawler candy
  • 2 ice cube trays
  • 1 quart fruit punch
  • Witch's Brew, recipe follows

Directions

Arrange gummy worms in ice cube trays, 1 worm per cube. Fill tray with fruit punch as you normally would water. Freeze until solid, 8 hours or overnight. Place into Witches Brew minutes before serving.

Witch's Brew:

Recipe courtesy "Semi-Homemade(r) Desserts," Miramax Books, 2003

1 (6-ounce) package lime gelatin

2 cups boiling water

3 cups chilled pineapple juice

1 (2 liter) bottle chilled lemon-lime soft drink or ginger ale

2 cups chilled vodka, optional

Special equipment:

1 large black plastic cauldron (available at party or craft stores)

1 punch bowl that fits inside the cauldron

1 plastic hand (available at party supply stores), sterilized in hot water

1 block dry ice (available at supermarkets, ice cream shops or ice companies)

Pour the gelatin mix into a large bowl. Slowly stir in the boiling water. Stir at least 2 minutes, until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Stir in the pineapple juice. Let cool to room temperature.

Wearing heavy duty gloves or using tongs, place the block of dry ice in the bottom of the cauldron. (Dry ice will burn skin, so handle it with gloves and tongs and keep it away from kids and pets!)

Use an ice pick to break the block into smaller chunks, if necessary.

Fill the cauldron with just enough water to cover the dry ice. It will begin to "steam."

Place the punch bowl inside the cauldron, on top of the dry ice. The cauldron will appear to be magically smoking.

Entrap the sterilized rubber hand between the cauldron and the punch bowl, squeezing it tight so the hand appears to be reaching out of the mist for help. Hot-glue the hand to the cauldron, if necessary, to hold it in place.

Carefully pour the drink mixture into the punch bowl. Slowly add the chilled vodka and lemon-lime soda or ginger ale. Stir gently to mix.

Yield: 12 to 16 servings

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Ease of preparation: moderately easy

Punch Good - Worms No Good

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
The punch was fabulous and everyone asked me for the recipe, but when the cranberry juice melted from the "ice" they were... each disintegrating. They left a weird film in the bottom of the punch bowl. Eww. All the guys had a fun time daring each other to eat them at the end of the night, but next time I think we'll just do the punch sans the gummy worms.Read more

Um, I would personally READ what I was critiquing. This recipe has VODKA in it, so I don't think anyone is serving it to a... child. At least I hope not!Read more

    Not bad at all

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I made this for my mini Halloween party... Wow, this made a BIG BOWL. good thing I used a big punch bowl, it was a lot!... Definately add the Lemon-lime soda right before you serve it. I was pressed for time, so I made it a few hours in advanced and had it in the fridge, it did loose the foam effect if you do that. Other than that, it was good... Had to add more vodka though, it was pretty light in this recipe.Read more

    Skip the dry ice.

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I found the punch itself to be delicious and would use the recipe again. I did choose to use ginger ale instead of the... lemon lime soda. I did not know that the water used to cover the dry ice would evaporate so quickly and the special effects would be lost. Also, obtaining dry ice is not as easy as stated. So skip the dry ice and enjoy the brew.Read more

    Witches Brew & Dry Ice!

The punch itself was VERY good, but I think it was the effect of the dry ice & water looking like steam boiling from the... cauldron that most dazzled my guestsRead more
