Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 pounds ground pork
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 2 large clove garlic, finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 1 head butter lettuce
  • 2 to 3 tomatoes, sliced
  • Spicy Ketchup, recipe follows

Directions

In a large bowl, using your hands mix together pork, coriander, curry powder, Worcestershire, cayenne, scallions and garlic, seasoning well with salt and pepper. Make 6 even patties and put in refrigerator until ready to cook. Heat a large fry pan over medium-high heat, add oil. Sear patties until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. Cook in batches, if necessary. Serve inside hamburger buns topped with lettuce leaf, tomato slice and spicy ketchup.

Spicy Ketchup:

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 scallion, finely chopped

In a saucepan over medium heat, lightly saute garlic in butter, about 2 minutes. Add ketchup, red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper. Cook another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in scallions. Cool before serving.

I made them for dinner and subbed 1 lb of Pork and 1lb of Beef. Also I made them sliders and they were gone so fast I only... got 2. Not too spicy and the curry flavor was perfect, Not over powering.Read more

I love food with a spicy kick, and this burger was incredible! I didn't even need to make the ketchup, because the burger on... its own already had amazing flavor. Thanks Sunny!Read more

Sunny hit this one out of the park. I had read the reveiws of this one before trying this one. I am a hardcore bachelor chef.... Yes, I do a lot of box mix cooking due to speed and ease. But in the last few years I have opened up the experimentation side of my cooking. I didn't make the spicy ketchup with the burgers... and like almost everyone else I put a subtle spin on it to suit me and what I had in house at the time. I also used the regular 75/25 beef rather than ground pork. In place of the ketchup i used a horseradish sauce because I feel that always complements beef. Now, istead of conventional skillet cooking... i tossed this on my Foreman grill.... Yes, BACHELOR COOKING at it's finest ladies. Anyways... my fiance adores my attempts and the results were a moist tender seared burger without effort... if you got a dry burger out of this... you overcooked it or fell asleep and screwed up. Stick to McD's and Burger King drive thru window ordering.Read more

    Excellent Change of Pace

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Had purchased a pound of ground pork to put in a meatloaf mixture, but worked late and did not have time for that. So, I... wondered what I could do with the pork in 20mins and found this recipe. Cut back the spices to match my ratio of meat (1 vs. 2.5lbs). We like curry powder so might add a bit more next time, but these were really flavorful and an impressive change of pace. The key here is a medium-high heat pan, so the burgers get crisp, cooked through, but remain moist. Made the ketchup and it was very good, but as a choice also served tamarind chutney by Taaza. (wow). Skipped the bun and served with some coucous, green beans and store-bought naan (i know most people don't have this sitting around!). My boyfrined ate two burgers and was eyeing a third. (For those not as familiar with ground pork, make sure to use regular ground pork, not the Lean Generation brand, which is injected with water and will not crisp up). Read more
