Ingredients

  • 4 ripe mangoes
  • 4 limes
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • Special equipment: 4 pairs wooden chopsticks, still attached, or sturdy candy sticks

Directions

Holding the mango vertically, stem end down, push chopsticks carefully but firmly upward right into the pit or as close to the pit as possible. Peel the mango, using the chopsticks to sturdy your grip. Working from bottom to top starting at the mango's midpoint; make 3 cuts into the flesh at a slight downward angle almost to the pit, being careful to keep the petals attached to the pit at their base. Gently bend each cut-away from the pit as if opening a petal. Rotate the mango about 60 degrees. Repeat process until the entire mango has been cut to look like a flower. Repeat with remaining mangos. Squeeze lime juice over mangoes and sprinkle with equal amounts chili powder and salt before serving

classic mexican treat , also served with cucumber and jicama. very tasty. I have always prepared the fruits cut in spears. had no idea how to put mango on a stick thanks for showing the method.

Okay, honestly when I watched Sunny put lime juice, salt, and chili powder on a mango, my jaw dropped in disbelief! I thought she'd lost her mind! I adore mangos, but how could this bizarre flavor combination work? She assured us viewers that, although it seemed an odd combiination, just try it, so I did. WOW! It is a total yummy surprise, a true flavor explosion in my mouth! Although I can't quite get the "on a stick" part to work, the flavors of these few simple ingredients are a MUST-TRY for any mango lover. I learn so much on the Food Network and learning to pair up seemingly uncomplimentary flavors to create something delicious is such a joy to learn.. and eat! Thank you Sunny for bringin this recipe to me, which I will use often for the rest of my mango-lovin' life. -Theresa
