Ingredients

  • 1 small head iceberg lettuce1/2 cup sour cream1/4 cup plain yogurt1/2 cup mayonnaise1 clove garlic, pressed through garlic press or finely minced1 tablespoon white vinegar1 tablespoon chopped chives, plus more for garnishKosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Peel off any wilted or discolored leaves from the outside of the lettuce. Trim the core even with the bottom of the lettuce and cut the lettuce into quarters through the core. If the quarters look too big for a single serving, either cut them in half or trim them to whatever size you feel is a good serving.

Combine the sour cream, yogurt, mayonnaise, garlic, vinegar, and chives in a bowl until well mixed. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

To serve, set the wedge of iceberg in the center of a salad plate, spoon the dressing over and dash it with a good pinch of chives.

    Light and Refreshing

This is a quick and easy salad that also tastes very good. Although iceberg is not the healthiest of lettuces, the crispness... of it makes it a pleasure to eat occasionally. I did add some sliced tomatoes to the side of the lettuce and drizzled the dressing over. I also used green onion tops instead of chives since that's what I had on hand. My whole family rated the salad highly.Read more

I would never have attempted to make salad dressing before- but this was easy! Everyone enjoyed the rich, creamy consistency.... I used dried chives and garlic from a jar as I did not have fresh in the house- put it was delicious all the same! I will be using this again. Also used this as a dressing for the accompanying chicken recipe.Read more

    Awesome!

made this with the basil potatoes from the same show and now everyone want this ranch dressing all the time. I sometimes... substitute different herbs when I don't have chives and it is still delicious (especially the next day). I try to keep it on hand and we have now gone back to iceberg lettuce as our favorite. I also think I'll try it on a baby spinach salad next.Read more

I followed the recipe exactly, except I added a splash of milk because I like it thinner. It was perfect.
