The origins of coffee soda are somewhat hazy. Some insist it to be a Calabrian invention with others claiming it’s invention in Brooklyn, New York. Regardless, this zippy yet refreshing beverage is super simple to prepare at home.
Make the simple syrup: Heat the granulated sugar and 2 cups water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Let cool, then chill.
Make the coffee soda: Fill a glass with ice and add the cold coffee and seltzer or tonic water. Sweeten with 2 to 3 tablespoons simple syrup or to taste and garnish with a lemon wedge.
