Reminds me of the bourbon balls my mother used to make. As a kid, I hated them. As an adult, I truly appreciate these delicious cookies. Instead of chocolate wafers, I normally use chocolate animal crackers. They are much more cost effective taste just as wonderful in the final product. I also have used almonds and brandy as substitutes and usually leave out the prunes. This recipe is great, flexible and always turns out fantastic!

I couldn't disagree more with the previous post. These are fantastic! Put the wafers in the food processor and ground them. Take them out and put in the 1/2 c. prunes. Process until they are in a clump. Then mix the two together as best you can in a separate bowl. Add other ingredients, which then makes mixing very easy. I taste no prune whatsoever. People won't even know it's in there and it adds great moisture to the dough. It makes about 36 with a small scoop. Let them sit for a couple days to really let the rum taste come out.

The recipe was easy. However, the taste of the prunes was too strong and distracting.
