Ingredients

  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 cups canned chickpeas, drained, liquid reserved
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/3 cup tahini (sesame paste)
  • 6 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (2 lemons)
  • 2 tablespoons water or liquid from the chickpeas
  • 8 dashes hot sauce

Directions

Turn on the food processor fitted with the steel blade and drop the garlic down the feed tube; process until it's minced. Add the rest of the ingredients to the food processor and process until the hummus is coarsely pureed. Taste, for seasoning, and serve chilled or at room temperature.

    delicious recipe

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
Might be a bit much lemon depending on your taste, i'd suggest starting with 1 lemon and going by taste from there. Other... than that, its a great recipe.Read more

    Good, but made some adjustments

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This is good, and if I were rating it as-is I guess it would get 3 stars. But, my adjustments made it 5 stars so 4 is the... average...hope that's helpful at all. I found the overall texture too pasty and grainy no matter how long I processed it. I like it super smooth. It was also a bit too salty and the garlic was overpowering. So, I made the following changes: Reduced the salt to 1 tsp. (and I'm not overly salt conscious) Reduce the garlic to 3 cloves (and I LOVE garlic!) added 1/3 to 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (guessing here!) The result is devinely smooth and flavorful hummus!Read more

    Tasty hummus

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
This was really good and I gave it four stars instead of five because I too had to make some adjustments. The garlic and... lemons I used were really fresh so it ended up being overpowered with garlic and lemon juice. I had to make another batch minus the garlic and lemon and mixed it all together. It was perfect after I did that and from now on I will never buy the expensive hummus from the supermarket.Read more

    Definitely better than store-bought!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I respect and trust Ina more than any other FN chefs, so decided to try her hummus recipe over the others on this site. It's... absolutely delicious! Used 3 garlic cloves instead of 4, 1 lemon instead of two, and much more of the chickpea juice than the recipe called for, plus added all sorts of spicy stuff like chipotle and red pepper flakes. Sooo yummy! Better, cheaper, and more fun than store-bought hummus. I'm glad I tried this recipe-- definitely a keeper!Read more

    Easy and good

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I enjoyed this hummus. I didn't have tahini so I tried blending it without it and then added 2T of olive oil. I tasted it... and added salt gradually. Very good. The raw garlic gives it a strong garlic flavor - but I like it. Read more

    TOO MUCH SALT

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
Wish I, too, had read reviews before making this. For my taste, I'll cut the salt in 1/2 next time. Really easy, tasty, blank... slate. Made mine w/Navy beans 'cause I didn't have chick peas. Really tasty. Nope, never buy hummus again. Read more
