Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • Full 1 cup water
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

Directions

Combine all 3 ingredients in a nonreactive 2-quart heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. All the sugar crystals should completely dissolve. Remove from the heat and pour into a clean medium-size bowl. Let cool completely before using. If you are short on time, you can cool the syrup over an ice bath. Simple syrup can be stored in the refrigerator, indefinitely, if kept in an airtight container.

    I tried this with the juice of a whole lemon instead of half, and I added some strips of lemon peel. I might of overcooked it... though, because it wasn't very lemony. Next time, I'll try it with oranges. My sister says: "It was very lemony on its own, but when we added it to sparkling water it lost some of its lemonyness. I give it 3.5 stars."Read more

    Oooo! I had been seeing them talk about making syrup, so here I am. First batch.... Splashed in some of this rum and a... bit of lemon juice and oooo boy! It's gonna be so good in the lemon iced tea I made earlier. :D Gonna try it in latte also.Read more
