Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, or 1 vanilla bean, split
  • 2 oranges, peels cut into 2-inch strips
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle vodka

To serve:

  • 1 bottle tonic water
  • Lime slices, for garnish

Directions

Place cranberries, sugar and vanilla in a medium saucepan. Place pan over medium heat and stir. Simmer cranberry mixture until the berries burst, about 5 to 6 minutes.

Place orange peels in a large glass container with an airtight lid, or large mason jars with lids. Pour vodka over the orange peels.

Allow the cranberry mixture to cool. Pour the cooled mixture into the glass container(s). Cover tightly and set aside for 1 week. After 1 week, strain out the cranberries sand orange peels and pour mixture into a clean bottle, using a funnel. Store vodka in the refrigerator.

To serve: Pour 2 ounces of vodka mixture over ice in a tall glass and top with tonic water. Garnish with a slice of lime.

I made this for a party and everyone loved it! I actually ran out of it and wished I had doubled the recipe.

I don't know what I did wrong, but it tasted like cough medicine to me. No one at my party was interested in trying it!

    Delightfully refreshing

I'd never made an infused vodka before...what was I waiting for??? My week was up last night, and so I had to do some... "quality control" tasting prior to bottling it for my Christmas gift baskets. What a surprise! I don't drink vodka straight, but this is one that I could. Ended up drinking it with tonic and fresh lime, though. I like the idea the last reviewer had of pairing it with champagne. I used two 1.5 liter bottles and doubled the rest of the ingredients from the recipe (although technically I guess they should have been quadrupled). My result was delightful. I triple-filtered it, then pressed out the cranberries to get as much of the residual vodka out of them, then filtered that as well. I didn't know how the cranberry pulp would affect the "shelf life" of the vodka (even refrigerated), although frankly, I don't think it'll stick around long. I was able to get some pretty bottles from Pier One, and they're standing on my counter now, waiting to go into the gift bskets. I'll pair them with two martini glasses, a cocktail shaker, Christmassy stir-sticks, some limes and two small bottles of tonic. I thank you, Michael, and my friends will DEFINITELY thank you!Read more

    Makes Great Cocktails

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
We made this recipe & gave it as gifts after seeing the show last year. We used the amount of ingredients that were shown on... the show. (Another review has them listed.) Everyone loved it! Serve it in a flute & top it off with Champagne instead of tonic water. It makes a very festive cocktail.Read more

Absolutely fabulous. So simple and makes a great Holiday gift. I made it with 1.5 cups sugar instead. Even those who dislike... Vodka wanted more servings!I made a second and third batch!Read more
