Ingredients

Chutney and Cheese Spread:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup (about 3 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar
  • 1/4 cup mango chutney
  • 2 ounces (a handful) macadamia nuts
  • 1 piece crystallized ginger, shaved or grated, for garnish
  • Date nut bread, halved across if round, lengthwise if loaf, then cut into 1/2-inch thick slices

New England Coffee:

  • 8 tablespoons ground coffee
  • 1/2-inch slice fresh orange rind
  • 4 cloves
  • Sprinkle cinnamon
  • Cognac or coffee liqueur
  • Granulated sugar, for rimming glasses

Directions

Pulse ingredients for the cheese spread in food processor until mixture is combined. Transfer spread to a small serving dish and garnish with shaved crystallized ginger. Serve with the date nut bread.

Brew a pot of coffee, putting the orange rind, cloves, and cinnamon in with the grounds before brewing. Top off coffee with cognac or liqueur. Dip rims of coffee mugs in warm water, then coat in sugar.

I didn't make the spiced coffee, but the Chutney & Cheese Spread got great reviews at a work potluck. I skipped the candied... ginger (since I hate it) but followed the rest of the recipe exactly - very yummy. I haven't seen Date Nut Bread for sale in our grocery stores, so I made my own in mini-loaf pans, which looked much prettier than cutting slices in half from a regular loaf pan.Read more

I made the spread and some homemade date nut bread for the Christmas potluck at my husband's office a couple of years ago. ... People were really interested in trying to figure out what was in it and many asked for the recipe. At the end of their lunch break, several of them called me. With the speaker phone on, they cheered my contribution.Read more

I made this for company and they all raved. It's fabulous and fast...my favorites! Date bread wasn't available, so I used... banana nut bread. It worked perfectly. The coffee was good, but I'll probably up the quantity of spices next time to really be able to taste them. These are keepers.Read more

    Delicious sweet bread spread!!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
This spread is unbelievably delicious and it got rave reviews with everyone who tried it. I made a basic date nut bread and... had this as the spread. Yum!! I didn't not have the crystallized ginger, but it was still excellent. Highly recommended.Read more
